Sorry when this has been posted before... i used the search function it but didnt come up with anything

Maybe it is a bad idea, but i throw it in anyway... is it possible to disable the "repeat former message" function while being in a town/outpost and using the local chat??

Maybe i am missing something, but i think this will cut a lot of local chat abuse... and so some spamming (at least in local chat). Why would anyone doing a normal chat need this function (maybe filter emotes out?)?

If you want to discuss then, please stick to the pros and cons...

ANet would also have to disable Ctrl+V to prevent pasting in all chat.

um no.... no and no

i use the last type message feature not cause im spaming but have you ever had to lfg in HA or try to tell 5 people the same thing, yea no. you know how you stop spam first of all turn off emotes wow what a great idea, and get out of main towns and ha SOLVED. but really if you want people to stop spamming give them a better way to sell items or find groups. i know we have seach but its not sed cause frankly it needs help. but if you take away this feature there willbe other ways to spam.

That would really heko indeed. I would still keep it in explorable areas where being able to quickly repeat messages or sending ctrl+v'ed messages is useful.
(Probably been mentionned once or twice but i've never seen a tread dedicated to it)

EDIT: as the guy above me sugested, it may not be that much of a problem but it might push some spammer to actually USE the searsh button.

The spamming does need to stop, maybe they just need a local chat 'Police' department or something. The filters arn't the problem, it's just the stupid kids posting crap like:
W- T S blah blah blah
W- T S blah blah blah
W- T S blah blah blah
W- T S blah blah blah

Then again, I only have Guild and Team chat on at all times.

Too bad you are missing the point... this is about local chat, not pm's. And maybe anet can seperate real towns/outposts for PvP areas (i dont know how bad this issue is in PvP).

I dont think this will be hard to code...

i do get the issue but like i said the real problem is no better system. my step brother plays wow and i have played/watched him play. wow has an Auction House and guess what basicly NO SELLING SPAM, maybe one person MAYBE really GW needs something better to sell with and hey problem solved, this is not a solution this is a "look we did SOMETHING" solution cause this wouldnt even stop spammers..... and btw crtl + v is a windows command not a GW command.

in all honesty idk, but i have yet to see a game do it, or else GW would have got rid of Alt+F4 which is also a windows comand

If they disabled autorepeating with the up button, it would actually force people to use the party search feature. *gasp*

Instead, putting someone on your ignore list should block all forms of chat/emotes/etc. Too bad the ignore list isn't long enough...

It's not about WTS/WTB. Every other person spams. Be it a question, a statement, nonsense, anything.

Turn off local chat.

It's too late, this has been #1 problem since start, and nothing whatsoever has been done about it. There won't be much done either.

The only productive thing they could do would be to remove the ignore list limits.

This would then quickly leave the spammers without anyone to sell to. I know in some games I played ignore lists of hundreds were common.

Spammers learned quickly, when they found nobody could hear them anymore, even when they just tried chatting.

I don't like the idea. Basically, you're getting rid of a really handy feature for everyone just because some people abuse it. For instance, I'm going for legendary defender of ascalon at the moment. Forget deathleveling, if I had to type out a message such as "LF someone to open the gate and then leave. paying 50g" until I got a reply, I would just give up.

It's not a problem with the feature, it's a problem with the people. Just ignore it. Or spend less time in main towns. You'll get used to it.

So?? Imo, this is exactly the poor attitute that causes this abuse/spam problem. Why do you have to spam your "LF someone to open the gate and then leave. paying 50g" in locat chat?? You are trying to buy a service, so that should go in the trade channel (yes that works in pre searing too)...

And i dont know if CTRL+V can be disabled (although i do know CTRL+C doesnt work ingame) but anet can empty the clipboard after using CTRL+V...

If they added a feature intelligent enough to filter out the same person, posting the exact same message more then once in a set amount of time, then /signed.

Then as you say, we just need to add the option to filter that out.

But I can see a very obvious way around it....

...they would just need to change one letter of the line to get through. Or add a number at the start and change it.

As with blocking <WTS> in chat, they would find a way around it.

LFG also gets abused badly. You can stand in a city with just two people in it, and the other person will spam LFG repeatadly for 10 minutes despite the fact there is no one else there but you.

Spamming LFG is the next most spammed thing other then trade spams. We need to teach people not to spam !full stop!

Spamming is never acceptable.

Aslong as you dont repeat the same sentence over and over again, it wont filter it out anyway.
